Stars of Opera in Brest
On the 29th and 30th November in Brest Drama and Music Theatre there took place the concerts where the Philharmonic Orchestra with the conductor Mikhail Snitko and the Belarusian opera stars Nadezdda Gubskaia and Sergei Frankovski, as well as soloists of the Opera and Ballet Theatre participated in.
The auditorium was full. It’s no wonder, as the local connoisseurs of symphonic and opera art had been waiting for this event for a long time. That evening one could listen to the eternally relevant themes of fate, death, hope, love. In the first section the orchestra brilliantly performed Beethoven’s 5th Symphony; in the second one Nadezdda Gubskaia and Sergei Frankovski were accompanied by the same orchestra and were signing the arias from the famous operas such as “The Boredom”, Puccini’s “Chio-Chio-san”, “Aida”, Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, Bizet’s “Carmen”… It wasn’t a simple coincidence that the concert program included works by Jakomo Puccini: on the 29th November the whole music world commemorate the Day in honour of this composer.
The audience was cheering to the echo for five minutes and was giving standing ovations after each performed aria.
At the end of this music festival Nadezdda Gubskaia and Sergei Frankovski perfomed in duet “Zastolnaia” (The Drinking Song) from Verdi’s “Traviatta”.
These concerts are undoubtedly an important event in the cultural life of the town.
